On Saturday, October 7, 2023, exactly 50 years and one day after that tragic Yom Kippur War on October 6, 1973, the world witnessed not a conventional military confrontation between two armed forces but a pre-planned attack on civilians who were murdered in cold blood by Hamas and Islamic Jihad – two terrorist organizations whose stated aim is the destruction of the State of Israel.
The infiltration into private homes in several towns in Israel located not far from Gaza and the murder of women and children is not a war but a mass murder – a pogrom perpetrated by murderers whose sole ideology is to kill as many Israelis as possible.
The murder and kidnapping of hundreds of innocent young adults whose only crime was to be Israeli and to participate in the 2023 Re’im music festival located 6 Km from the Gaza border is nothing short of a genocidal act that should be condemned by the world, including by ArabMuslim countries in which the sanctity of life is enshrined in their state religion – Islam.
The leaders of the Arab countries should denounce Hamas and its military commander, Muhammad Al-Deif, for desecrating the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by naming his genocidal operation “Al-Aqsa Flood.”
It is morally incumbent on Kings, Crown-Princes, Presidents, and Prime Ministers of Arab nations to unambiguously condemn Ismail Haniyeh for cruelly leading an ad hoc prayer celebrating the murderous actions of Hamas from the safety of his office in Qatar while innocent Israeli women and children Jewish and Muslims alike were still being murdered by his forces.
Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, Muhammad Al-Deif and Ziyad al-Nakhalah, the leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad, whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of innocent people, should be brought to justice and held accountable for their genocidal crimes – Canada should sponsor such an initiative.
The Sephardi Federation of Canada condemns the terrorist organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad for their genocidal acts and strongly supports the people of Israel in these trying times. At the same time, the Sephardi Federation of Canada will continue to work on erecting bridges between Jews and Muslims of goodwill in Canada, Morocco and Israel. This conflict is not a war between Jews and Muslims but rather a confrontation between the evil embodied by Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah on the one hand and humanism on the other.
President Sephardi Federation of Canada.
